There’s a lot of talk about second chances these days, and all the things that come with it.
Alvin Bautista, 39, knows all about getting another shot at a better life after hitting a bump on the road.
In January 2017, while serving a 15-day suspension from his work as collector for a tube ice company, he read about Lalamove on Facebook. Not wanting to be idle for 15 days, he applied as driver for the then fledgling Philippine branch of the Hong Kong-based logistics company.
He brought all documentary requirements, paid a cash bond, attended orientation, and was authorized to drive his motorcycle for Lalamove the next day.
One of the things he had to do first as a Lalamove driver was to provide a bank account where the company could remit his earnings. He gave them his BDO savings account. By the time he was back on his day job at the ice company, he was earning P3,000 weekly as a part-timer for Lalamove.
“With Lalamove, I was earning three times what I earned at my old job, so I resigned last year and decided to go full-time. Now I earn more, and I am free because I have no boss. On some days when I need to rest, I just do,” Bautista said.
When Lalamove moved its remittance channel from banks to GCash’s Powerpay+, an online disbursement facility that makes it safe, easy and convenient to remit commissions, salaries, allowances and other funds to employees, Bautista was excited.
He had already been a GCash user for about six months so he was familiar with the app. Using his GCash account to receive his Lalamove earnings only meant he would have more money in his mobile wallet.
Aside from the rebates, Bautista enjoys the GCash freebies he could pick up from 7-Eleven, like hotdog and juice, which power him up on long days of driving around the metro for deliveries and pick-ups.
“My daughter likes the freebies from J.CO because she likes doughnuts. My wife is now a GCash user, too,” he said, lured by the perks of using GCash.
Recently, he got P100 load just for linking his BDO account to GCash.
His latest favorite feature of GCash is GCredit. He started with a P2,000 credit line, which has increased to P7,000 because he is a frequent GCash user. He said his family uses GCredit to buy groceries and pay for their Globe Internet at home.
“Just last month, I got an offer for a postpaid plan with free phone because my GScore qualified me for that, but I turned it down. I’m waiting for a Samsung unit I like,” Bautista said.
From being down on his luck due to a job hiccup, Bautista has picked himself up and is now enjoying the opportunities before him, thanks to the freedom he gets from Lalamove and the helpful freebies and financial services he gets from GCash.
